Weekend Retreat At Bayfront Resort At Crossview

Disclosure: Bayfront Resort at Crossview invited us for a hosted weekend stay. All opinions within the review are 100% ours.

We’re a sports family. Our kids have played travel and club sports for over a decade. We’ve spent many weekends on the road for baseball, softball, basketball and soccer tournaments.

Recently, we traveled to Sandusky, Ohio, for a baseball tournament at Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center. The facility is a short one-hour drive from our house, so we typically don’t stay overnight. This trip, though, was just me, my son, and a nephew, so we decided to turn it into a guys’ weekend. Plus, we love the Shores and Islands Ohio area. We’re also Cedar Point season passholders and planned to visit the amusement park after their games.

Sandusky, Ohio, was recently voted the #1 Best Coastal Small Town in USA Today. As a popular midwestern tourist destination, Sandusky offers several hotels and other accommodations for various needs. We’ve enjoyed our fair share of Sandusky hotels in the past, and we’re looking for a unique experience.

That’s when I discovered Bayfront Resort at Crossview.

Bayfront Resort at Crossview is a luxury RV and cottage resort. We don’t own an RV, but I wish we did after visiting Bayfront. The good news is that you can stay here even if you don’t have an RV. They offer several cottages, which is where we stayed. There’s also an option to rent an RV and have it dropped off directly at the resort. You don’t have to worry about driving or parking it.

Here’s a closer look at what makes Bayfront Resort a perfect option for your next weekend getaway.

Bayfront Resort Location

Bayfront Resort at Crossview is located in Sandusky, Ohio. Specifically, it’s on First Street, which is important to know. That’s because it’s the last street before you head over the causeway to Cedar Point Amusement Park. It’s unbelievably close to one of the best amusement parks on the planet (and our home park).

It’s so close that we decided on a 9 PM whim to hit the park for a few late-night rides before closing. We’re season passholders, so we could park for free and navigate to our favorite coasters quickly.

The property is somewhat tucked away along the street, making it a welcome retreat from the park and tournament crowds.

The location also puts Bayfront Resort minutes from the Sports Force Parks ballfields. It’s also a short drive to Cedar Point, the ferries to Put-in-Bay and Kellys Island, and other Shores and Islands Ohio attractions.

Bayfront Resort RV Sites

The resort has 39 concrete RV sites with full hook-ups to accommodate up to 40’ RVs. The RV sites are split into two sections — an area running between the two rows of cottages, closer to the water, and another area nestled back further. Both areas seem well equipped with everything you would need. Both were relatively quiet outside the geese that seemed to have taken up residence.

Bayfront Resort is pet-friendly, with eligible pets allowed for RV guests, with some guidelines and restrictions. Pets are not permitted in the cottages at any time.

RV site amenities include:

  • Full Hook-up  (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer)
  • Concrete site with patio
  • Picnic Table
  • Grill at each site
  • Free Wi-Fi

Bayfront Resort Cottages

The cottages! Where do I start?! Our cottage was the last in the row, closest to the boat launch and breakwall. The exterior looked incredible, with an inviting front porch perfect for enjoying my morning coffee (provided it’s not Mayfly season).

Walking into the cottage, I couldn’t believe how spacious and luxurious it was considering its exterior appearance. There were only 3 of us, but you can fit up to 6 people in a cottage. With four teens, we value separate beds and space. My son is tall, so fitting in the bunk beds was challenging, but he made it work.

Somehow my nephew scored the private bedroom, complete with its own TV, closet, and dresser. A huge ceiling fan too! He’s a good kid, so I let him enjoy the private space.

That left me with the loft all to myself. Real talk. The steps are steep, and the ceiling is low. It’s not made for hanging out or walking around, which is totally fine. Think of the cottage like a tiny home. Everything has a purpose, and the loft is a place to sleep. The bed was quite comfortable, and the view of Cedar Point lit up at night was perfect. I liked the loft. I’m not sure Barb would’ve appreciated it as much.

Cottages come with a full bathroom, complete with a shower. There was also a washer and dryer, perfect for sports families in town for tournaments. If our team had performed better, I probably would’ve washed uniforms. The kitchen was stocked with basic utensils, more than enough for most needs during a stay. Having a kitchen area and counters was super helpful for making and packing food to take to our tournament. There was also a little breakfast bar area to sit and eat.

We didn’t use the living room area much, but it looked great. There was a large smart TV, a built-in fireplace feature and a comfy couch and ottoman. We did use the free WiFi. After the games, the guys retreated to their beds and phones.

A grill, picnic table, and fire pit were on the side of the cottage exterior. We used this area briefly, but the Cedar Point lights were too much to pass up.

Cottages come equipped with linens & towels. We found a basket of bath towels for use during our stay. The cottages are also air-conditioned.

Bayfront Resort at Cross View

Bayfront Resort at Crossview is a luxury RV and cottage resort located in Sandusky, Ohio, The resort features 39 RV sites with full hookups and 10 stunning, fully furnished cottages, each with its own picnic area, grill, and fire pit. Bayfront Resort features a refreshing heated pool, a clubhouse full of family-friendly games and activities, and a walkable breakwall along Sandusky Bay.

Bayfront Resort Amenities

While the resort is an RV park, it offers better amenities than most campgrounds and parks. Here are some of the amenities you can enjoy during your stay.

Heated Pool

Despite some rain during our visit, we enjoyed the resort pool several times. It’s advertised as a heated pool, but it felt pretty cold. Luckily, it was a hot weekend, and the cold water was the perfect way to cool off after a day of baseball.

We saw a few guests using the pool area during our visit, but it was empty each time we swam. The boys took full advantage of the space, whipping a ball as hard as possible at each other (and me).

Clubhouse with shower and laundry facilities

Next to the pool was a brand-new, air-conditioned clubhouse with several seating areas, vending machines, and tons of family-friendly games. I wish we had more time and more family with us to enjoy all of the available activities.

Further down the same building are full shower facilities and changing areas, and a laundry area for resort guests. Our cottage had a shower, washer, and dryer, so we didn’t need to use the facilities at the Clubhouse.

General Store

While checking in for the weekend, I noticed a small general store in the main office. We didn’t buy anything, so I can’t speak to specific items it carried or pricing, but it looked well-stocked with snacks, beverages and essential items you might need during a stay.

Waterfront Walkway

Our cottage was next to the shoreline and had a breakwall, which you could walk along during posted times. Some signs are posted with guidelines to follow as you enjoy the beautiful views of Sandusky Bay. There’s also a boat and kayak launch for eligible CVB guests. Fishing is allowed from the bay side of the breakwall for those with a license.
