Let’s face it. Money is important to any family. It’s one of the things couples fight about most. How can you and your spouse get on the same page with your finances?

Enter Zeta. That’s right. Zeta. It’s a new app that’s made especially with couples in mind. We’ve been using Zeta for about 6 months and absolutely love it!  How does Zeta work and how will it revolutionize managing family finances? Let’s take a look.

What is Zeta?

Zeta is a personal finance app designed especially for couples. It’s the perfect tool that allows couples to stay on top of their finances together. Zeta allows you to track your money, communicate with your spouse, set goals, and build a plan as a team.

Flexibility is offered with Zeta. You can share as much or as little with your partner. This is great if you have shared goals, but separate finances.

Expense tracking is a breeze with Zeta too. Create customized spending categories so you can track your expenses in a way that makes sense for you. It’s not a cookie-cutter finance app.

Zeta is accessible through their mobile app (available on iOS and Android) as well as a desktop version. Both options are easy to navigate. Zeta is visually and functionally pleasing too. We’ve used other expense tracking apps that are confusing. Others have almost made managing finances a bigger chore than doing it ourselves.

You can connect all of your financial accounts to Zeta. That includes bank accounts, retirement and investment accounts, and even credit card accounts too. We even have our mortgage set up in Zeta so we can watch as we try to pay it off quicker. Our teenage daughter has a custodial bank account. We added that too. We’ll be adding accounts for our other kids too. It’s great seeing all of our money in one nice, neat place.

There are other personal finance apps with many of the same features as Zeta, like expense tracking. But nobody else can organize couples and families the way they do. What features make Zeta unique?

Bill splitting

If you have separate finances, but share responsibility for certain expenses, you can split them in Zeta. It’s easy to do and makes shared expense tracking so much easier.

Bill calendar

Keep track of upcoming bills, so you don’t have late payments. You can set up reminders in case you are forgetful (like me).

Perhaps one of the most useful features is the ability to leave memos for your partner. Maybe there’s a purchase you made that they need to know about. This takes the guesswork out of the equation later. You can also use this as a way to ask your spouse about a specific expense.

Budgets and goal setting

Goal setting is crucial to success to most things in life. This includes financial planning. Zeta allows you to set up budgets and goals together and then track their movement. It’s easy for people to get off track from time to time. But having your budgets and goals front and center helps couples stay motivated, make adjustments as needed, and celebrate wins together.

Using Zeta as a couple

Zeta makes it easy to track and plan your finances together, no matter your relationship status. For couples who aren’t married yet, you can manage your individual and shared spending in Zeta. Maybe you’re engaged and trying to figure out how to merge your finances. Zeta is the perfect tool to navigate tasks like this. Zeta is a great vehicle to get to know your spouse (and their spending habits) better. Some people might not want to know this, but it’s important to have an open and honest dialogue concerning finances in any relationship.

“Couples who communicate regularly about their finances report being twice as happy! This isn’t really a surprise – communication is the pillar of a great relationship, and it’s no different when it comes to money. You’ll find that as you begin sync on your finances, you’ll have more control of how you’re going to reach your goals versus letting money control you.”

Maybe you’ve been married for a while and have kids. Maybe you have some retirement accounts or other investments. Zeta allows you to set goals for all kinds of life events. Being able to track your progress in the app is huge!

Is Zeta secure to use? The answer is yes. Zeta uses bank-level security measures to protect your personal information. None of your logins are stored in the app. They use a reputable third-party technology to connect your financial accounts to their app, but don’t actually store the information anywhere.

When you invite your partner to join, there’s a two-step identification process before they can see any shared information. And Zeta will never access your account unless you give explicit instructions to do so.

Here’s the best part about Zeta. It’s free to use. For real. There is no charge to download or use their app. This may change down the road, but as of right now it’s completely free to use. It doesn’t get better than that. Most personal finance apps either have a monthly or annual fee. Some have free versions but make you pay for more advanced features. You can find those advanced features in Zeta.

Who should use Zeta

Couples that want to get serious about their finances should use Zeta. It’s not the most robust expense tracking app on the market, but the fact that it’s designed for couples sets it apart from the competition.

If you are single or aren’t interested in sharing your finances with a partner, you can opt for another personal finance app or program that fits your needs. You can always switch over to Zeta when you find that special someone worthy of shared expenses.

How do I get started with Zeta?

Signing up with Zeta is simple. You can start right here. Create a free account using an email address and some personal info, link your financial accounts, and invite your partner to join. That’s it.

There are many things that couples don’t need to see eye to eye on. How to manage their finances isn’t one of those, unfortunately. If you want to save yourself some headaches, sign up for a free account with Zeta, add your partner or spouse and get on the same page. It’s worth well beyond the 10 minutes it takes to set up.
